Humanoid Sound Systems Scanned Synth Pro

Getting started

The below information gives basic tips on installing and running Scanned Synth.

Installation

Running as a stand-alone application

Generally VST plugins such as Scanned Synth Pro cannot be run on their own, instead having to be run inside a host application. However, Scanned Synth Pro comes bundled with a handy application called SAVIHost (http://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm) that allows it to be run as if it were a stand-alone application.

To run Scanned Synth Pro as a stand-alone application, simply find the Scanned Synth Pro program group in the Windows "Start" menu (where this is depends on where you chose to place it during the installation process but the default under Windows XP is "All Programs > Humanoid Sound Systems > Scanned Synth Pro") and click on the "Run Stand-Alone" option.

SAVIHost provides a keyboard that allows you to play Scanned Synth Pro using the mouse. If you have a MIDI keyboard connected to your PC then you will also be able to play it using that.

Running inside a host application

Scanned Synth Pro is usually used inside a host application. The specifics of how to do this vary greatly between hosts. There are many host applications, both commercial and free (e.g. Steinberg Cubase, FL Studio, Orion, Cakewalk Sonar, VSTHost, Jeskola Buzz). A good starting point is the KVRAudio (http://www.kvraudio.com) site on which you can search for information about a wide range of such applications.

If you install a new host application with a separate VST plugins folder to the one in which Scanned Synth Pro was installed then you can simply copy the ScannedSynth.dll file from the Scanned Synth Pro program files folder (see step 4 of the installation instructions above) into the new plugins folder. Most host applications will actually let you change the folder that they look in for plugins so this may not be necessary.
